Audience/Overview

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR & AED course is designed to provide a wide variety of community members, child care providers and professionals the ability to recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use and AED, relieve choking, and provide basic first aid in a safe, timely and effective manner.

Course Content

  • First Aid Basics
  • Common Medical Emergencies including: breathing problems, choking, allergic reactions, heart attack, fainting, diabetes, stroke, seizure, shock, heart attach
  • Common Injury Emergencies including: bleeding, wounds, head and spine injuries, broken bones and sprains, burns and electrical injuries
  • Common Environmental Emergencies including: bites and stings, temperature-related emergencies, poison emergencies
  • Key changes in CPR from the new 2010 AHA Guidelines
  • CPR Critical Concepts
  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant

Course Length

Approximately 6 hours with a half hour lunch break

*course time based on 1 instructor: 8 students

Audience/Overview

The BLS for Healthcare Providers – Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Most healthcare providers are required to take this course.

Must have current/non-expired BLS Provider Card to take this re-certification course. Expired card holders and new beginners must sign up for the BLS initial certification.

  • CPR Critical Concepts
  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant

  • Choking for adult, child and infant
  • CPR with an advanced airway
