/Advanced Airway vs. Bag-Mask Ventilation in Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA)

Over half a million patients (649,654) in Japan who suffered an OHCA from January 2005 through December 2010 were studied for favorable neurological outcomes, also called Neurologically Intact Survival to Discharge (NISD).

The odds of neurologically favorable survival were significantly lower both for endotracheal intubation and for use of supraglottic airways.

According to this study: (click here to visit the JAMA page) OHCA patients are more likely to achieve NISD with Bag Mask ventilation.
