BLS Initial Certification – In-Person Classroom Course
The American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Initial Certification Course is an instructor-led classroom program designed for healthcare professionals who are learning BLS for the first time or whose certification has expired. Through hands-on practice, scenario-based learning, and instructor feedback, students gain the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies.
This in-person course includes full skills practice and skills testing with an AHA Instructor. Upon successful completion, students receive an official AHA BLS Provider eCard.
What the BLS Initial Course Covers
This course follows the current AHA BLS Provider curriculum, including:
- High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
- 1-rescuer and 2-rescuer CPR techniques
- Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Bag-mask ventilation for all age groups
- Team-based resuscitation concepts
- Relief of choking for adults, children, and infants
- Recognition of respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Safe and effective emergency response behaviors

Textbook Requirement
- Students are required to have the current AHA BLS Provider Manual for this course.
If you already own the textbook, you may bring it with you. Otherwise, it may be purchased during registration.
