ENA developed The Trauma Nursing Core Course to establish a standardized body of trauma nursing knowledge and to improve the care of all trauma patients. This seventh edition course combines interactive learning with scenario-based assessments to give nurses a comprehensive learning experience.
About TNCC
This course taught by qualified emergency nurses, delivers the knowledge, critical thinking skills and hands-on training needed to keep trauma patients safe. The overall course objective is to improve trauma patient outcomes by providing nurses with foundational trauma knowledge, skills, and a systematic Trauma Nursing Process to guide trauma patient care.
After taking TNCC, nurses will be able to systematically assess the trauma patient, to intervene and/or assist with interventions, and to provide evidence-based trauma nursing care within the context of a trauma team.

Full Course (RN) – One and a half days of instructor-led classroom time with skills testing, an online exam, and required pre-course work. This option is for registered nurses. RNs are verified as a TNCC provider after successful completion of the course. This course choice is an ideal option for RNs taking the course for the first time. Contact hours are awarded if the RN is unsuccessful but otherwise meets the contact hour requirements. RNs will receive 3.25 contact hours for completing the pre-course work and an evaluation and 15 contact hours after completing the classroom time and evaluation. The total number of contact hours awarded for each course is 18.25.
Fast Track (RN) – One day of instructor-led classroom time with skills testing, an online exam, and required pre-course work. This TNCC only option is for registered nurses. RNs are verified as a TNCC provider after successful completion of the course. Although not required, prior experience with the Trauma Nursing Process is ideal. Contact hours are awarded if the RN is unsuccessful but otherwise meets the contact hour requirements. RNs will receive 3.25 contact hours for completing the pre-course work and an evaluation and 7.5 contact hours after completing the classroom time and evaluation. The total number of contact hours awarded is 10.75.
Challenger (RN) – No classroom time. This option includes skills testing and an online exam only and does not require pre-course work. It is for registered nurses (or the equivalent as defined by their country of practice) with ENPC or TNCC experience and who are comfortable with self-study. RNs are verified as an ENPC or TNCC provider after successful completion of the course. RNs will receive 3 contact hours for completing the skills testing, online exam, and evaluation.
Non-RN – One and a half days of instructor-led classroom time, skills testing, and required pre-course work. This option is for healthcare professionals interested in trauma patient care who are not registered nurses. No provider verification is granted. Contact hours are awarded if the non-RN meets the contact hour requirements. For ENPC, non-RNs will receive 4.75 contact hours for the completing the pre-course work and an evaluation and 11.5 contact hours after completing the classroom time and evaluation. For TNCC, RNs will receive 3.25 contact hours for completing the pre-course work and an evaluation and 13 contact hours after completing the classroom time and evaluation. The total number of contact hours awarded for each course is 16.25 for non-RNs.

Textbook: The latest edition of the TNCC Trauma Nursing Core Course Provider Manual includes evidence-based content developed by trauma emergency experts. The 24-chapter, comprehensive manual is a compilation of current trauma nursing standards and a valuable resource for future reference.
Online learning: Online modules with links to additional information are provided prior to the course date to let you learn at your own pace, apply what you learn and receive immediate feedback, and refer back to information at any time. The modules are a complete case study process — taking you through an entire sequence of care.
Live simulation: TNCC includes hands-on training using both an individual and team approach. Trauma nursing process psychomotor skills stations offer you the opportunity to practice trauma patient assessments and interventions in a controlled environment.
Instructor-led classroom discussions and skill stations: TNCC is a two-day intensive course taught by expert instructors.
TNCC Fast Track course option now available! TNCC Fast Track is an abbreviated version of the TNCC, 8th Edition, course. It was developed for nurses who need to renew their TNCC verification card and are more comfortable with independent study. These students will attend a portion of the didactic instruction and take the same skill station and online exam assessment required for course completion. A four-year verification card is awarded upon successful course completion.
TNCC Pre-course Online Modules Requirement
- All students are required to complete the TNCC Provider Pre-Course Online Modules before attending class. TNCC is an intensive two day course intended for experienced Emergency Nurses. Without completing the pre-course online modules before attending class, students will not be allowed into the class. Reschedule fees will apply
- Instructions on accessing the modules will be in the Confirmation Email after registration/purchase is complete
Textbook Requirement
You must have the Trauma Nursing Core Course Provider Manual (eighth Edition) by Emergency Nurses Association – to complete the pre-course online modules and bring to class. (Available for purchase at check out)
